Skincare Routine – Everything You Need To Know
Skincare is a word we hear a lot lately. Taking care of our skin, using the right products and making all of this a routine is something that is part of those good habits that influencers and experts have recently recommended to us through social networks, blogs or videos. But how to have a skincare routine that is effective? Here we tell you everything you need to know.
Importance of having a skincare routine
It is very likely that, since you were little, you were told about the importance of eating well, exercising and getting 8 hours of sleep each day, but have they ever explained to you the importance of having a routine for skin care? Your face?
We talk about routine because it doesn’t help if you wash your face one day because you got a pimple and the next 30 days you simply have the soap as decoration in the bathroom.
Taking care of your skin should be part of your daily life; Washing your face, applying sunscreen, moisturizing cream and any other product that your dermatologist recommends according to your skin type, should be part of something like a check list, that you are responsible for complying with, without excuses, every day.
This is because the skin is your letter of introduction and the largest organ in the body and as such, we must take care of it. And, really, what are those products that should be part of your daily life?
What type of products are used in a skincare routine?
When you have healthy skin or when your dermatologist has not given you any extra instructions, your skincare routine should definitely include:
- An excellent cleansing method that should be chosen according to your skin type.
- A sunscreen, the one you like the most, but always checking that it is dermatologically tested, that it has an SPF of 50+ and that it adapts to your skin type.
- A product based on antioxidants to use in the morning, which helps the skin defend itself much better from the sun, giving it extra protection. At night, the recommendation is to use that product that helps your specific needs: acne, preventing aging, spots, luminosity, etc.
This extra product, for mornings and nights, is important to be recommended by a dermatologist because it depends on your skin type, which one will be best for you. Are there other beauty elements that can be added to these basic skincare products?
What elements can be mixed in a skincare routine?
At this point it is super important that you keep in mind that, in the skin, more is not always more. That is, the skin of the face reaches a point where it becomes saturated, and cannot absorb all the product you apply to it.
Therefore, the recommendation is that you only choose a serum, cream or gel that you love and works for you, and that you make it part of your routine.
Washing your face, applying sunscreen and then a moisturizer, a gel and a serum will only mean that you are wasting the product and the money you invested in the last two, because the skin will not be able to absorb its benefits.
What you should do is only use a maximum of three products per routine, always making sure that they respond to the specific needs of your skin.
Things that we should not mix in our skincare routine:
We spoke with an expert about this topic, and she gave us some super useful tips to avoid making common mistakes that may be happening to us:
- Serums that are based on Vitamin C should not be mixed with anything because they are super unstable and, when mixed with other creams, they lose all their benefits.
- Sunscreen, on the other hand, should not be mixed with any other product before applying it directly to the skin, as it may lose its SPF protection. This should be put on the face, just as it comes in its original packaging.
- Products that have retinol, which are applied at night, should ideally not be used during the day because they can cause sensitivity to the sun and end up burning your skin.
- Be careful with exfoliation! For no skin type, it is recommended to do it daily and for others, it is advised not to do it at all. Therefore, you should always discuss this point with your dermatologist.
Whenever you want to add something to your skincare routine, whenever you see a miracle product talked about on the internet, consult with an expert! Not all products have the same effects on all people.
Now that you know what products to use in a skincare routine and what you definitely should not do, we will share some tips for everyday use and others for when you have more time and want to do a longer routine.
Types of skincare routines
Here we talk to you about these two types of skincare routines . The day-to-day one and the one you can do when you have extra time:
Daily facial care routines
As we have already told you up to this point, your daily skincare routine should take up part of your time in the mornings and evenings. Do you have doubts about what the ideal step by step should be like? Here we share it with you:
- Wash your face every morning with your favorite Pomys cleanser, it doesn’t matter if you already washed it at night! Your face can accumulate dirt and impurities even when you sleep.
- Moisturize your skin with the product recommended by your dermatologist. Remember that this will make your skin more resistant, have a better appearance and will prevent the early appearance of wrinkles.
- Don’t forget the sunscreen! It doesn’t matter if you are going to stay at home, this is one of the steps you can’t skip.
At night, it is super important that you wash your face again to remove makeup or dirt from your face and, once you complete this step, you can apply any other product, as long as your dermatologist considers it necessary.
Facial care routines for when you have extra time
At this point, the idea is that your basic routine does not change, but, assuming you have extra time, you can add those products that are skin recovery products such as antioxidant or depigmenting ampoules, for example.
You can also take the opportunity to make hair masks and exfoliate your skin, if your dermatologist recommends it.

Why do some facial care routines sometimes not work?
Here we share some of the main reasons:
- You may be using more products than necessary.
- How much product are you applying? Sometimes it may be a lot, but other times it may not be enough. Always make sure to apply an amount of product that corresponds to the size of a small bean.
- The product you are using may not be effective for your needs. Not all spots are removed with the same cream, the same goes for acne or freckles. Therefore, you should always rely on the recommendations of an expert.
