Facial Hair Removal and Its Effects
Some of the most common areas, when we talk about facial hair removal in women, are the mustache, eyebrows and sideburns, but how good is it? Is there anything I should take into account when doing it? In this article, we tell you everything you need to know and answer some questions.
What is sought after with facial hair removal?
Mainly what you look for in facial hair removal is not to have a single extra hair on your face. This is a 100% aesthetic decision that each woman makes according to her condition and her tastes.
The eyebrows, for example, were one of the most plucked areas of the face among women, in search of giving them shape and making the face look much more polished and feminine, however, new trends have left this aside to give welcome to more disheveled and not so symmetrical eyebrows.
If you have already joined this new wave, you are surely happy to not be a slave to eyebrow plucking.
Although this is a very common method, can any woman do it?
Can anyone have facial hair removal?
This depends! Later, we will see all the options that exist to get facial hair removal. However, there are two of them, which are laser and wax, for which it is better that you talk to your dermatologist before doing it because the skin on the face is much more sensitive than that of the rest of the body and it is better that you be sure that these hair removal methods are compatible with your skin type. If not, what other options would I have?
Types of facial hair removal:
When it comes to facial hair removal, there are multiple options, some more specialized than others that can work very well for you. Here we tell you the most common ones:
- Wax: One of the oldest and most traditional techniques. Preferred by many because it is economical and durable. However, it can also be very painful and, as we already mentioned, a little aggressive with the skin of the face, especially if it is very sensitive.
- Hair removal creams: There are many options on the market and it is a good option when you want something quick, that you can do at home and without any pain. However, you should keep in mind that, unlike waxing, this technique does not pull out the hair from the roots, so its results are not as long-lasting.
- Threading: Highly recommended for eyebrows because it outlines and helps shape. It is not such an easy technique to learn, so you will probably have to go to a beauty center to get it. It is not very painful and is economical.
- Laser hair removal: This is one of the techniques that has gained strength the most lately because it has an advantage that the others do not have and that is that, after several sessions, it helps to eliminate hair by the roots. Of all the options, it may be the least economical and, in some cases, may cause pain. Remember that, before using this type of hair removal on your face, it is important that you consult with your dermatologist.
- Epilator: In some regions, it is called an epilator and in others a tweezer, but it is the most classic technique to remove each of the hairs with a metal instrument. It may take longer than the other methods in each session, but it has the advantage that it is a moderately long-lasting result because it removes the hair from the roots.
Knowing all these techniques, does facial hair removal have any disadvantages?
Points for and against facial hair removal
Let’s start with the advantages:
- It helps us feel more beautiful! Many times facial hair is a cause of insecurities and facial hair removal is perfect to combat it.
- Since they are very small areas, it is much easier for you to do it at home, with one of the homemade methods that we previously recommended.
- Did you know that facial hair removal acts as an exfoliant? This happens because when you do this, you remove dead skin cells.
Now the disadvantages:
- Skin sensitivity! The face is much more delicate and may be more likely to become irritated.
- Since facial hair is so thin, sometimes when trying to grow out, it can fester, generating blackheads and pimples.
- When we use hair removal methods that pull out hair from the roots, as happens with the tweezers that we always carry in our makeup bag, we may stimulate the hair and make it appear thicker and more visible.
- Another disadvantage that you may find is that you will have to include facial hair removal in your beauty routine from time to time, so that the hairs do not begin to show.
Does facial hair removal guarantee that facial hair will not grow again?
There is only one method of hair removal that guarantees that the hair will not grow back, and that is laser hair removal. However, it is super important that you keep in mind that the hair that grows on our face, especially the mustache, may be there due to hormonal issues, which does not guarantee that it cannot grow again, even after a few laser sessions.
Other hair removal methods do not ensure that the hair will not grow again and all of them can have side effects on the skin.
Effects of facial hair removal on our skin
- Be careful with hot wax! When it is not administered correctly, it can cause spots or burn the skin.
- Take care of the sun! Regardless of the hair removal method you use, you must protect yourself very well from UV rays, as hair removal makes the skin more sensitive and more prone to the effects caused by the sun.
- Avoid waxing parts of your face where the skin is very thin, such as the eyelid area when plucking your eyebrows. In this case, you may run the risk of the skin starting to stretch after several waxings.
- Skin infections! So that this does not happen, we recommend that you always, before facial hair removal.
