Best Skin Care Routine for Men [Basic to Advanced]

Having a basic facial cleansing and moisturizing routine is essential to deal with the first signs of aging. And no, you don’t have to buy a whole bunch of cosmetic products.

We explain, in detail, a very basic facial care routine that you can (and should) include in your life. They take care of themselves, you can and should too!

Men’s facial routine (basic products)

Everyone should have a cleansing and moisturizing routine, regardless of gender, since pollution does not discriminate and your skin is no exception. Especially the skin of the face, which is the first to be exposed and faces all the environmental pollution.

The good news? You only need 3 steps to achieve clean, toned, hydrated and, above all, well-cared for skin.

CTH stands for “cleansing”, “toning” and “hydration”, the most basic and, in a way, the most effective way to achieve healthy skin. Let’s go with it!

1. Clean your face with a water-cleansing gel

The first step in learning how to take care of your skin is facial cleansing. If you are one of those who only washes your face with water, fine. But, after reaching a certain age, something more than water is needed to keep the skin smooth and toned. Get a good facial cleanser but, be careful, not just any cleanser.

First, analyze your skin, what is your skin type? There are 4 types of healthy skin: normal (balanced texture without blemishes), oily (your skin produces excess sebum), dry (your skin tends to redness and flakes) and combination (your skin is oilier in the T zone of your face).

Don’t run away yet, if you have normal, combination or oily skin, always opt for a facial cleanser indicated for “all skin types” or micellar water. If your skin is dry or prone to dryness, opt for a facial cleanser for sensitive skin.

In fact, Mercadona has just released a very cheap facial cleanser with activated charcoal to remove all impurities from the dermis.

When you have chosen the facial cleanser, moisten your face with a little water and apply a few drops of the cleanser to your fingers. Then, spread the cleanser all over your face always with circular movements and upwards. Your goal is to remove all impurities and dead cells from your skin.

Just by cleaning your face daily, you will notice your skin more hydrated, calmer and toned. And if your skin produced excess fat, you will also notice how that excessive sebum production decreases.

2. Apply a facial toner on your skin

The second product that you should include in your basic routine is the facial tonic, better if it is rich in aloe vera. After washing, what you do is drag all the dirt with surfactants, which alters the pH of the skin.

The facial toner will close the pores and prepare your skin to receive all the nutrients from the moisturizer. In addition, facial toners promote better blood flow, revitalizing and preventing flaccidity of the dermis.

Therefore, after facial cleansing, it is advisable that you apply a toner on your face directly with your fingers and with very light touches. If it’s a spray, spray it on your face and let it dry.

3. Moisturize your face with a masculine cream

Here is the product that will keep old age at bay, the moisturizer, the third most used men’s product, only behind shaving foam and aftershave balm.

Its importance lies in the fact that it is essential to keep facial skin healthy and hydrated. In fact, the two fundamental pillars of all facial care are cleansing and hydration. So take note and get a moisturizer that suits your skin type. If you opt for one that has a filter or protection factor, much better.

The moisturizer should be used daily, morning and night. When you have your moisturizer, apply a small amount on your fingers and then spread it all over your face. Always with circular movements and upwards. The upward massage stimulates circulation and favors the penetration of the product.

You can also apply the moisturizing cream after shaving, as it is ideal for relieving burning sensations and redness.

More care for men’s skin

Have you slept badly? You can use a concealer for dark circles to mitigate and cover the signs of a bad rest. It is always applied after the moisturizer. Depending on your needs, you can apply it in two ways:

  • To reduce bags, apply in a V-shape under the eye or tear duct. Blend gently with your fingers and you’re done.
  • If your face is very fatigued, apply it to the inner and outer corners of the eye, emphasizing the darker areas.

Did you know that it is very important to use sunscreen also in winter? The cold and low temperatures also take their toll on your skin and dry it out more than it should. So if you want to add an extra layer of protection, use sunscreen every day and always after your moisturizer.
