How Often Should You Wash Your Hair?

You certainly have a day and time to wash your hair, right? But how often do you use the shampoo and conditioner? Despite being common in everyone’s daily life, much is still speculated about the correct frequency of washing their hair, with each person adopting a different method. But after all, how many times do you need to wash your hair?

Washing your hair every day doesn’t hurt, but the practices included in that routine can be harmful, such as using very hot water or the dryer daily.

How Often Should You Wash Your Hair?

People with oily hair tend to wash their hair more, as the sebum that accumulates ends up bothering and even harming the skin. To do a deep cleaning, you need to use products that are suitable for this type of hair and don’t forget to always pay attention to the temperature of the shower.

Already those who have dry hair can go more days without washing the strands quietly. Even so, it is always good to choose products that are suitable for cleaning this type of hair and never use hot water, as it can end up drying out the scalp even more.

How often do you need to wash your hair?

There is no universal rule about the number of times a week; the ideal is to observe the needs of the scalp. The most oily (like smooth and wavy), for example, need to be washed more frequently.

Already dry hair (curly and frizzy), can hold the wash for a few more days. However, this rule should not be taken too seriously, due to the rebound effect, a natural skin defense mechanism: excessive washing ends up drying out the scalp, causing the body to produce even more oiliness.

Can you wash your hair every day?

Yes. In the case of very oily strands, daily washing is allowed, as long as it is done correctly — without abusing hot water or using products that do not dry out the skin — the hair can be washed daily.

If you have this habit, the ideal is to give preference to warm or cold water, as high temperatures attack the scalp and cause the rebound effect. It is also recommended to avoid sleeping with wet hair so as not to favor the proliferation of bacteria and the appearance of mycoses.

How long can I go without washing my hair?

Those who suffer from the most dry scalp can go without washing their hair for a longer time, with more days between one wash and another, but care must be taken.

The ideal is not to go more than 5 days without sanitizing the wires. Failing to wash your hair can be harmful: since the scalp continuously produces sebum, the lack of cleaning can cause accumulation of oiliness and even seborrhea (so-called dandruff), in addition to diseases caused by fungi and bacteria.

Co-wash: a different technique to wash the wires

Despite being essential in your capillary routine, some components present in the shampoo can harm the hair: sulfate, petrolatum, vaseline, silicone, waxes and paraffins are active ingredients that, despite being present in most cleaning formulas, can clog the follicle and cause dryness.

Co-wash is a product developed with the aim of cleaning and conditioning the wires without using any of these substances, and when used alternately with shampoo, it maintains the hydration of the wire without giving up cleaning.

The co-wash is a wonderful alternative for both dry and curly hair, and it can be a valid alternative for smooth and wavy curls, which need daily washing.

And how to wash your hair correctly?

Each hair has its appropriate washing frequency, but the correct way to sanitize the strands is universal. Some details are essential to ensure that the hair does not suffer damage.

  • Always wash your hair with lukewarm or cold water: hot water opens the cuticles of the strands beyond what is necessary, increasing dryness and further embarrassing the hair.
  • Apply the shampoo only to the root. The amount of product used needs to be controlled so that it only comes into contact with the scalp and roots, and runs down the length of the hair when rinsing.
  • Don’t use force when scrubbing; Excessive pressure when applying the product to the root can weaken the hair. Use gentle circular motions with your fingertips to stimulate the hair follicles and relax them.
  • Don’t skip the conditioner! No wonder the duo has always been inseparable: the shampoo opens the cuticles during the cleaning process, and the conditioner serves to close them, protecting the strands from external damage and keeping the nutrients inside the strands.
